Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s brace was enough to propel Lazio to an incredible comeback win over Cremonese on Sunday. The victory saw the Roman side move back up to second place in Serie A, two points clear of Inter Milan, just in time for the final round of the season.
Lazio entered the match with a sense of urgency, having been leapfrogged by Inter just days before. They were behind early when Cremonese seized an early lead through an own goal from Lazio defender Luiz Felipe. But Lazio had other ideas and pulled level when Milinkovic-Savic scored his first of the day in the 24th minute, sending supporters draped in their iconic sky blue and white Lazio jerseys into a frenzy.
The second half saw more action as both sides continued to search for a winner. Just when it seemed like they would have to settle for a draw, Milinkovic-Savic struck again in injury time with a beautiful header that sealed all three points for Lazio.
The win was huge for Mauricio Sarri’s men, who had been struggling without injured star striker Ciro Immobile for several weeks now. With his presence missed in front of goal, it was Sergoj Milinkovic-Savic who stepped up and delivered when it really mattered most. Not only did his two goals seal three valuable points but they also earned him a place alongside Immobile at the top of Serie A’s scoring charts with 17 goals each this season – an incredible feat considering he is normally deployed further back on the field than his teammate.
This result not only sees Lazio jump ahead of Inter in Serie A standings but also provides them with some momentum heading into next weekend’s big Serie A showdown with Juventus at Stadio Olimpico where they will hope to secure second place once again.
